How embarrassing!!

Having said that, I heard on the radio today a few hours before the debate that Clinton is pretty much conceding SC to Obama and is spending three days this week in California, Arizona and a few other Super Tuesday states. If that's true, it's a brilliant move and also explains tonight.

First, Clinton won't win SC and she has accepted it; her campaigning there has such great potential of causing more racial tensions, which could hurt her nationally --she's not going to win SC. It would also hurt Obama nationally –I’m glad Clinton made this decision (if it’s true –one never knows with “news”)!!

Second, Obama was debating FOR South Carolina tonight; Clinton was clearly debating for a national audience; she was looking at Tsunami Tuesday. In my opinion, she scored major points nationally with her answers --she did very well.

Obama needs the win in SC and he answered the questions for South Carolina, he also did very well with how he framed his answers. This strategy is excellent for SC in my opinion; however, I wouldn't recommend he use it elsewhere.

Having said that, they all acted like toddlers --my twins --and they were very, very rambunctious and more time outs than I can count --NEVER acted like these three did tonight –Edwards was not much better!!

WOW!!
Countdown Monday: Clinton vs. Obama vs. Clinton

#1. I can confirm that the Hillary campaign handbook did say that the doors were to be closed at 11:30 but while helping to set up the room, I also posted the official rules printed by the State Democratic Party. The copy I posted on our precinct's wall also said the doors were to be closed at 11:30.

The biggest problem with the caucus was that no one knew what they were doing. My precinct's caucus was held at the same school as 15 others. Everyone who arrived had no idea what precinct they were in. All of the complaints that you have heard about people being turned away are from people who did not know their number. They were trying to send them to their proper precincts. The 100 people in our caucus acted reasonably enough and realized all the confusion and kept the doors open until 12:00.
Since we were expecting 40-50 people, we were given 75 ballot cards. We ended up with 97 and worked out agreements in the meeting on how to count and record our vote.
Although the caucus was totally disorganized, the overwhelming message was the huge turnout. Don't let all the mistakes take away what was a great day for democracy and the Democratic Party. We have been outvoted by Republicans for years and drew 120,000 Democrats to the caucus while the Republicans had about 40,000.

Countdown Monday: Clinton vs. Obama vs. Clinton

Here we go again. A movie about Dumbya. Will it be a comedy, drama, documentary or a tragedy? Who will be Cordelia to his Lear? Who will be Brutus to his Caesar? I think we already know who will be Iago to his Othello. Stone often makes a movie with an odd topic but I'm wondering what studio can be talked into financing something like this. Will it just cover his political life or will it include his alcohol and cocaine besotted twenties and thirties. Will it include his finding God ( who knew God was lost)? Will it show his business career, mediocre until he saddled Texas taxpayers with the cost of a stadium to create an enormous profit for him upon his sale of his interest in the Rangers? Will we finally see the secret rites of Skull and Bones? Will we finally get the answer to the most important questions of all: Who or what is George Bush and who cares? He has created an image of ineptitude and indifference which will characterize him in perpetuity. It is less than one year until a new president occupies the White House and we will no longer have to deal with Dumbya the dilettante. For the Republicans, unfortunately, it will probably take at least two election cycles for them to recover. They will be swamped this November.

Countdown Monday: Clinton vs. Obama vs. Clinton

Good Tuesday afternoon to all. My family & I had a great time up in bella Toscana-the Leaning Tower of Pisa was an especially cool thing for my four boys to see.

Speaking of being up North-the air quality was awesome; there were recycling bins everywhere; and there were NO bags of trash lining the streets.

Folks, you need to understand that the current situation in the Naples area is having an impact on our forces, government employees & the families (the impact on the Italians goes without saying). Our government is 'working' with the Italian government, and the Navy has called in people from the US to assess air & water quality-great.

It is common for areas around here to burn trash, but with no landfill to put ANY trash, it has been accumulating and many areas are starting to burn the trash-not good.

2008 - HEALTH RISK ASSESSMENT INFORMATION SHEET >>Top
The Navy is committed to protecting the health and well-being of it members and their families. Hillary's response to a question regarding Bill's involvement in her campaign that she would expect him to support and campaign for her as do Edward's and Obama's spouses was partially correct yet partially wrong.

Bill would be expected to support and campaign for Hillary, but to say that Edward's and Obama's wives have the same media exposure, influence and political machine ties as Bill Clinton and therefore the same impact against another candidate is ludicrous. In regard to the candidate's spouses the playing field is not equal and Hillary knows this. Her overgeneralized statement to the question was lame. On the other hand, what else would we expect her to say. Her whole campaign is becoming quite lame as well.

Hillary's response to Obama during this exchange, after Obama made a comment regarding Bill's recent attacks against him, that she was standing there and not Bill, Obama should have come back and asked "are you sure"?

All in all Edwards won the debate. Obama's issue is not being able to handle the criticisms but a decision on how to handle them. I think last night showed that Obama has decided he was going to start fighting fire with fire. He has determined he was not going to take the BS any longer and to fight back. Whether you agree with him or his positions or not, I agree with the decision he has made to stand firm and to get a little tough. He did not have an emotional moment because he was being criticzed by all sides, including a very popular ex-Presdient who is not running for President (or is he), but Obama has decided to go toe for toe. Win or lose good for him.

Note on many of Hillary's responses to legitimate questions last night about the issues as health care , the economy, etc., many of her responses were preferenced with "we" looked at this and "we" studied this and "we" decided this. If she wants to be considered and elected on her own merit she needs to begin using "I" before making such responses and proposals. Every time she says "we" there is a message being given to people that these positions and proposals are not hers, but rather Bills and hers. It weakens her claim that she is the one standing there, she is the one running, and that she will be the one in charge if elected.

Countdown Monday: Clinton vs. Obama vs. Clinton

Quick question: We're the Democrat and Republican caucuses held at the same time in NV? If they were, did the Democrats not report their results until much later than the Republicans?

I'm only asking because I was watching Fox 'news' on Saturday (hey, that's what AFN was showing), and for the 45 minutes it was on they only showed the Republican results. So, before I go and slam this 'news' station for their blatant 'fair and balanced as long as you're a neo-con', I just want to make sure what the deal was.

OBTW, read a 'lovely' little column in the Stars & Stripes yesterday. Ann Coulter seems to think that all Democrats are sitting on our front porches waiting for our FEMA checks-oh the cheeky little whore for the neocons. It's actually quite funny when you realize that the woman is off her rocker. No, nothing funny about insanity, but seeing it in that freak, well, it's nearly heart warming.

Ciao!

Countdown Monday: Clinton vs. Obama vs. Clinton

Just peeked in on the debate -- everyone is looking very presidential, but they’re talking about the issues. Back to Countdown for the really important gossip.
Anna Molly (: always loves the journey and #4 (Sent Monday, January 21, 2008 9:24 PM)

LOL!! Abraham Lincoln as No. 1.

Not sure I agree with any validity to these polls or to any ranking by well known Presidential scholars. Subjectivity can never be taken out of such polls or opinions. Regarding more recent scholars who rank Presidents I wonder how they would rate the same if they actually lived during the time of past Presidents? Polls and rankings by scholars are based on those criteria used by the scholars to make such rankings. Use different critieria and one might come out with different results. Don't you think? It's also difficult to compare and rank Presidents against others when each faced (or did not face) a unique set of challenges and issues during their Presidency. I may have missed it, since I didn't see the whole debate, but on Rev. Martin Luther King Day, why is the issue of faith virtually ignored by the MSM when it pertains to Democratic candidates? Why was the possible appearance of a cross in the background of Mike Huckabee's campaign commercial such a problem but no one raised any question about Democratic candidates using appearances in black churches on MLK day for campaign purposes? Huckabee has also been endorsed by a number of black religious leaders but the MSM refers to them as conservative black leaders, not evangelicals. Does the MSM fear referring to them as black evangelicals because the MSM wants us to assume that evangelicals are a white, monolithic group to be feared and it threatens their template? If so, is this not a racist attitude let alone an attitude which exposes a bias against those the MSM labels as evangelicals? Of course it is and the reason there is little debate over this in the MSM is because few in those media have the courage or integrity to confront, investigate, or debate this issue. They fear what they do not understand so they ignore what is opposed to their own worldview.

Countdown Monday: Clinton vs. Obama vs. Clinton

HELLO NEWSHOLE, UPDATE YOUR BLOG PLEASE.

Countdown Monday: Clinton vs. Obama vs. Clinton

Kim P. Perhaps he is being overly aggressive, but, by the same token, Obama is coming across as a bit of a whiner. The campaigns need to be about the issues, not a discussion about the conduct of the campaigns, yet that is what the MSM jumps on at every opportunity. Last night's debate is already being characterized as something akin to a cage match, and that is certainly how it started out, but the tenor of the dialogue at the end of the debate was much different. Nobody seems to have noticed that. (And can CNN handle a debate anymore without turning it into some sort of circus?)

4 - Chuck Norris' logic for choosing Huckabee over McCain is interesting. Personally, I can't trust the judgment of a man who looks in the mirror every day and thinks that dye job looks good.

3 - Let's see. James Brolin as Ronald Reagan in a controversial movie that got yanked from CBS. Josh Brolin as George W. Bush in an Oliver Stone film. If Streisand's husband ticked off the Republicans, something tells me her stepson won't have any better luck.

2 - Archie Manning must've missed that installment of the TKO Report. Did GWB get into office thru hard work and dint of effort? Mo Hammond (Sent Monday, January 21, 2008 7:01 PM)

Hi Mo -- How are things going? I hope you and C A don’t mind if drop in on this discussion. Cute and quaint and cuddly seem a little like my territory. Obviously, and C A knows this, too, all candidates use the advantages they have. John Edwards uses his looks, and I’d be willing to bet that sympathy for his wife is something that has at least crossed the Edwardses’ minds. As far as it goes, there’s nothing wrong with that. But, however you feel about the Clintons, you have to agree that Bill Clinton’s presence weighs more heavily than Elizabeth Edwards’ presence, sympathy notwithstanding, and certainly more than Michelle Obama’s, attractive and articulate as she surely is. As I said yesterday, if I were running, and Bill Clinton was my husband, I’d want him right there next to me.

But maybe C A’s point (and I don’t presume to speak for him) is that this question of “fairness” is really just a matter of perspective. What if, for example, Nancy Reagan had run for president in 1988, capitalizing on Ronald Reagan’s 65 percent approval rating at the time? I’m sure that some folks, democrat and republican alike, might have reasonably believed this was an unfair attempt to end run term limits. And what if, as I blogged last week, Michael Bloomberg decides to enter the 2008 election as a third-party candidate? If he does, he’s likely to bring at least a billion dollars to the table. Whichever way that money rolls, it’s going to tilt the table. Viewed from the perspective of the other candidates, do we NOW say unfair? On what basis? And if so, then exactly where do we draw the line? And then, what do we do about it? To me, the last scenario, at the very least, counsels for campaign spending limits. But it also highlights that, at least sometimes, there can be a level of unfairness that should not be tolerated. I personally do not want to see Michael Bloomberg enter this race, and from what I read, Clinton supporters do not want to see that, either. But like it or not, fair or unfair, it could easily happen.

Countdown Monday: Clinton vs. Obama vs. Clinton

NEWSHOLE FOUR HOURS AND NO UPDATE. Wherever animals must pool their talents and numbers into cohesive social groups, scientists said, the better to protect against predators, defend or enlarge choice real estate or acquire mates, the stage will be set for the appearance of political skills — the ability to please and placate, manipulate and intimidate, trade favors and scratch backs or, better yet, pluck those backs free of botflies and ticks.”

Please and placate, manipulate and intimidate, trade favors and scratch backs ….? From what we’ve been seeing recently, this doesn’t seem that much different from the way humans do it. Enjoy!
Countdown Monday: Clinton vs. Obama vs. Clinton

Have been a Democrat and feminist since 68. I wonder what Hillary would say if she had to answer directly whether or not she was a feminist?
I was okay with her until she brought Bill in. The campaign was clean until then. To my horror, I realize they are Karl Roving Obama. His strenghth was a new kind of campaigning, so they twisted words and made things up until he had to go on defense and we got the shameful spectacle of last night. Maybe he should just let her attack him, give her a puzzled look, and then talk about the issues. It is so unfair to use your ex-president husband as your hatchet man. If so, is this not a racist attitude let alone an attitude which exposes a bias against those the MSM labels as evangelicals?"

Steven Rennie, Fillmore, NY (Sent Tuesday, January 22, 2008 11:52 AM)

The short answer may be that MSM doesn't know -- or doesn't want to know -- the difference. There are too many flavors of "conservative christian" religion to put out there in a 30-second sound bite so they don't even try.

Life is so much easier for the talking heads when the any population can be lumped together, i.e. southerners are all conservative, yanks are all liberals, African-Americans are all..., Hispanics are all..., Californians are all..., women are all...

FWIW, it's a matter of convenience rather than racism.

Countdown Monday: Clinton vs. Obama vs. Clinton

Pam:

Because I criticize Hillary and disgree with her positons and express a lack of trust in her campaign I am slandering her. Note how in addition to how Obama is reaching for support from the Dems he is also reaching for support from independents, republicans and last night mentioned even bringing under the fold those from the religious right. His comment that if they are ignored and not approached in a manner that may win them over or at least to gain compromise from them they will set their own agenda for this country and remain a strong force within the fabric of this country that is in opposition to what the Dems are trying to achieve. Obama is reaching out to all people and this should be appreciated as well as supported as a new beginning for this country wehther he is the elected candidate or not.

Countdown Monday: Clinton vs. Obama vs. Clinton

Anna Molly (: Tuesday, January 22, 2008 2:09 PM..Please and placate, manipulate and intimidate, trade favors and scratch backs....? But, however you feel about the Clintons, you have to agree that Bill Clinton’s presence weighs more heavily than Elizabeth Edwards’ presence, sympathy notwithstanding, and certainly more than Michelle Obama’s, attractive and articulate as she surely is....

... And what if, as I blogged last week, Michael Bloomberg decides to enter the 2008 election as a third-party candidate? If he does, he’s likely to bring at least a billion dollars to the table. Whichever way that money rolls, it’s going to tilt the table...."

Your quaint, cute and cuddly opinions are welcome so far as I'm concerned, Annie, so long as you don't kick.

The point I was trying to make is that Bill C is not some new species on the taxonomic charts, and that's a legitimate starting place for figuring out what he's up to. Yes, he does carry far more weight than the rest of the presidential spouses, and he is indeed stepping in to unknown territory, just as Hillary did all those years ago. For people clamoring for "change" as promised by Obama to be clamoring in the next moment at the "unfairness" of Bill living and demonstrating change is disingenuous, at the least. Obama, while promising change, is running a conventional campaign and keeping the little woman by his side. Where's the change? Politicians have promised "change" when things are bad and "stay the course" when things are good since the Greek era.

Gazillionaires such as Bloomberg playing coy and tossing a lot of late money in can discombobulate an election but they've come and gone before and will again. What's "fair" have to do with it? I in all seriousness cannot think of a billionaire who's actually won a national election via a third-party candidacy. Third party mavericks are a part of the landscape and, short of some constitutional jiggering, there's nothing to be done about them.

Countdown Monday: Clinton vs. Obama vs. Clinton

HM (11:59 AM Post):

I agree that Obama was starting to look just a bit of a whiner at the end of that madness between him and Hillary. The priest and the congregation were completely aghast and in total shock.

No one knew what to do except for one man. He went to the communion rail and knelt beside the black man and they received communion together—and then a steady flow of other church members followed the example he had set.

After the service was over, the black man was never to be seen in Richmond again. If what Bill is doing is ok (as a Senior Dem and a Dem Leader according to his role as defined by Hillary ) then would it also be approriate and a good change for the Chairman of the Dem Party to come out at this time and throw his support behind a single candidate? Hillary continues to claim she is the only one ready to step in beginning day one to manage properly the national security of this country. She admitted in last night's debate that Obama was against the war and did not vote to enter into the war but criticized him on voting to later fund the war. Obama should have replied yes, after it was too late to stay out of Iraq and our troops were there I voted to fund the troops so they would have the proper equipment and material to protect themselves as did you. But you on the other hand voted to give GWB approval to invade Iraq in the first place which has resulted in the deaths and serious injury of thousands of American troops some of which were here from SC, Florida, New York, California and other parts of the country.

If the candidates are going to use advantages of position and are going to get down and gritty, it is time that Hillary be held accountable for her vote to invade Iraq. And if she is so much more intelligent and experienced to manage this country's national security from day one, then what is her excuse for voting for the very biggest mistake in this country's history regarding war, national security and the senseless loss of Amercian lives. Obama might have added that his 100 + "present votes" as a State Senator in no way compares in poor judgement or infamy then Hillary's 1 vote in the US Senate to approve the invasion of Iraq.

Countdown Monday: Clinton vs. Obama vs. Clinton

Lets take a look at Carter’s “accomplishments” while in office:

1. It's a very real issue that should be discussed considering how widespread the products in question are...

2.) Hillary Clinton has, in the past, taken the stance to censure and quash the creativity in this medium, and...

3.) Faux/Fox Noise/News hosted a debate in which 100% false statements and opinions were stated as fact, and when the the only person at the debate who *knew* what he was talking about asked his opponents if they had ever seen the subject in question, they LAUGHED at him.

So, for your amusement, I give you the latest batch of Fox-fuelled lies (I would link to the Fox story if I could find it, but this is more concise, and it has video clips of both the 'debate' and the 'objectionable material' in question so you can judge for yourself.):

http://blogs.pcworld.com/gameon/archives/006339.html

It's clear that Fox used the unlamented blogger Kevin McCullough as their 'source' for this debate. For those of you who don't know, Kevin McCullough is a conservative blogger on the web who first started spewing this nonsense. He also was BURIED by the fan community when he posted his lies on his blog. Within a week, the website host had swept his libel under the rug and called it a day.

Anyways, to the point. Right now I'm fairly undecided as to who I'm going to vote for. But I can tell you one thing: If a candidate for this presidential election (or any election that I can vote in) decides to start a witch-hunt or some sort of crusade against video game entertainment, I *will* vote against them. From McClatchey "Truth To Power".

Throw the flag against: Hillary and Bill Clinton. Call: Unnecessary roughness.

What happened: The Clintons say that Barack Obama praised Ronald Reagan recently and lauded Republican ideas.

"He said President Reagan was the engine of innovation and did more, had a more lasting impact on America than I did. And then the next day he said, 'In the '90s, the good ideas came out from the Republicans,' " Bill Clinton said in Nevada.

"It certainly came across . . . as though the Republicans had been standing up against the conventional wisdom with their ideas," Hillary Clinton said Monday in a South Carolina debate.

Why that's out of bounds: First, she denied in the debate Monday that she'd spoken about Reagan. But her husband had. Acting as if he's some low-level staffer or distant surrogate is disingenuous. Second, the Clintons greatly distort what Obama said during a Nevada newspaper interview. He said Reagan had changed the trajectory of American politics. That's beyond dispute. Obama did say that Republicans were the party of ideas for several years, but he also said they'd played themselves out and that their ideas didn't work. The Clintons ignored that part.

Penalty: 15 yards for knocking down Obama's words.

Countdown Monday: Clinton vs. Obama vs. Clinton

update the darn blog.

Countdown Monday: Clinton vs. Obama vs. Clinton

I think people have to look hard, Chris Matthews having to apologize, Oprah getting disgusting blogs and Bill & Hill mowing through -- we are setting ourselves up for another dynasty voting for Hillary -- she was soooooo inflexible on the Healthcare it will be done her & Bill's way or not at all -- Pundits and Press need to start reporting instead of kissing up to the Clintons or we are right back where we started from. Write and report now or you will hold your tongues for the next five years -- it is just unbelieveable what we can all start to see.

Countdown Monday: Clinton vs. Obama vs. Clinton

Wow, moderation has been really poor today; then again, maybe the moderators are disgusted with Clinton and Obama's tantrums last night too!!

PEACE!!

Countdown Monday: Clinton vs. Obama vs. Clinton

C A and Pam, I value both of your contributions here so much and have ever since I found this "rag tag" bunch this past spring. Talk about experience? And certainly, there was poor judgment on our former President's part to say the least.

Younger Americans need to know all about this too. As this retired teacher recalls, it was President Bill Clinton who also abandoned the most vulnerable among us: welfare mothers and their children, gays and lesbians, and those earning the lowest incomes who were never ever lifted up by the dot com bubble. He sold out our manufacturing base with Nafta and assisted China in many ways--including militarily that haven't surfaced yet--long before George Bush did. And because Hillary blew the health care initiative so pathetically, millions of Americans still suffer without access to afforadable health care. In fact, her biggest accomplishment in her political career was in 1994 when she single-handedly gave both houses of Congress to the Republicans. Then also consider that Bill Clinton never even asked Congress to ratify the Kyoto Treaty on climate change. In Africa as I recall--contrary to how Hillary remembers it--we stood by and did NOTHING while genocide occurred in Rwanda. And what about Haiti and Somalia?

Hillary Clinton chided Barack Obama recently for stating Reagan led a movement, unlike her husband; yet it was Alan Greenspan who referred to Bill Clinton as "one of our best Republican Presidents". Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton invoked his name and his "slum landlord business" in a debate with Obama on Monday. A plainly embarrassed Obama has been sending the campaign money to charity in an effort to distance himself from the Chicago businessman, including $41,000 over the weekend.

The Democratic presidential hopeful has also been forced to explain how Rezko got tangled in the purchase of the Obama family home and other ties to Rezko — some of them going back more than 15 years. I believe Barack had to come out fighting and show the country what he's been up against with the Clinton Slime Politics Attack Machine--and Bill Clinton personally--and that he wasn't going to take these smears lying down anymore. I think Hillary also realized she doesn't have a chance in South Carolina and was really trying to accomplish two things: get under Obama's skin--per "slick Willy's" orders--to show his supposed weaknesses AND speak to the rest of the country--especially those states in the Super Tuesday primaries (and with California on her mind). This "rough and tumble" between Clinton and Obama probably helped Edwards--who may be running for Vice President again. Whatever, I believe Hillary lost more of this Saturday's "white vote" as a result. Part 2 of the debate went much better, and I believe Obama displayed a more polished leadership style and won that round "hands down".
Here's the deal now. Barack Obama did what he had to, but now, he needs to get Bill Clinton out of his head and start talking beyond and above him to the nation and the world. He can no longer let Bill Clinton get under his skin, as that's what the Clintons want. Instead, he needs to make his case by appealing to the nation and the world that he's the one Presidential candidate--with the voters' help--who will provide the best leadership for the 21st century that will inspire and no longer rely on the Bush-Clinton dynasty polictics of the past. Hopefully then, more young people, more women, more seniors like me, and more latinos--citizens of all stripes--will realize that if Hillary Clinton ends up being the nominee and wins the election, it will be the dirtiest, costliest campaign on record, and none of our real problems will get their solutions because she won't be able to lead us effectively and get anything done--why? Too many conservatives hate her guts.
Barack Obama, reach above the fray--start speaking to the nation and the world, and help us turn the page on this utter nonsense and destruction. Be our leader for the 21st century.
Countdown Monday: Clinton vs. Obama vs. Clinton

So if we elect Hillary, we replace one pathological lier (Bush) with two (Hill and Bill)?

Countdown Monday: Clinton vs. Obama vs. Clinton

Too many conservatives hate her guts.
Roland Madore, Fort Collins, CO (Sent Tuesday, January 22, 2008 8:01 PM)

Actually sir, Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina --one of the most conservate senators of all, when asked about a Hillary Clinton presidency stated, "I would be very comfortable with Senator Clinton as president."

Her years in the Senate have changed many things sir; and one being the many who so-called "hated" her no longer do and actually have a great deal of respect for her!! If someone would simply air the clip, viewers would immediately see and hear (as I did) that Obama never said the Republican ideas were "good" or that he admired them, simply that as a party, the Republicans had a vision and were sufficiently organized to try to implement it.

I expected Olbermann, if anyone, to actually run this clip. Instead, I've just heard him repeat to the nation the spin the Clinton campaign put on it. He just said, "Well, Obama did say the Republicans had all the good ideas..." No, Keith, he didn't, and your reinforcing the calculated Clinton spin is unforgivable. Obama's response to Hillary's twisting of his words last night was purely factual, and the news media should be able to make that clear.

This election is far too important, and the public is too much in need of accurate information, to allow the campaigns to control the "facts" when it is so easy to demonstrate the truth of an issue. The importance here is not what Obama did or did not say about the Reagan era (and it should be obvious to even a casual observer of the Democratic candidates that none of them do or could admire Republican ideas), but that one candidate -- Hillary Clinton -- is willing to calmly fabricate what she must know to be a lie about her opponent.

What we need more than anything at this point in our history is a president we can trust to tell us the truth, and last night Hillary demonstrated that she is not that person. You also have that right and privilege. Frankly, I could care less about the Dem party or the Republican party and I am not expressing personal beliefs or a personal strategy that includes input that would protect and/or uplift either party. Part of this country's problem are the parties and the obvious blind adherence and commitment to the same, Dem and Republican. I am looking for a person to lead this country who has honesty and integrity and that can incite all Americans to unite and to move forward on the many issues we face. I could care less if they were Dem or Republican and would prefer they would consider themselves just American. If that is too subjective on my part as well as in pursuit of my individual beliefs and opinions then I am guilty as charged.

I have not decided yet who to vote for. I am not high any any of the candidates but I will vote. I have similar feelings towards most bloggers here. My gosh, if you want to rip me for something fine. Pesky things like requiring worker's compensation insurance? Minimum wage? Requiring a safe workplace? Making you keep your vehicles in a safe condition when you use the public roadways? Have you considered offering more pay? Maybe your just not a very good boss to work for and your employees are voting with their feet. I ran a family business for almost twenty years and found that I could frequently get people to work for me for less than elsewhere if they felt like they had a stake in the business. I complimented them on a job well done. I gave managers bonuses when they exceeded. I sought their input on how to improve the business. I rarely had anyone quit. I did occasionally fire people but found that my workforce kind of policed themselves and usually resolved issues before I had to do anything. Business is like any human endeavor. Its success relies on the loyalty of the employees, not the shareholders, for long term profitablity. True, there are businesses which succeed using a management style based on fear but you will find their employees will leave for as little as a dollar more per hour and their customer service usually stinks.

Countdown Monday: Clinton vs. Obama vs. Clinton

I am amazed at the fact that so many actually believe Obama, playing the victim here, is actually that. He is playing his own version of spin....poor me being attacked by the same ole political games. I live in California, a VERY unfriendly small business state. I have wonderful employees, I pay them well, they don't leave, but I have more headaches with government wanting every piece of my business. Between workers comp, (which I think is a ripoff, as I pay my employees health insurance, taxes, (I pay way more then I should), insurance (again I pay more then the norm because of the type of business), and because California and it's EPA requirements, I have to pay fee upon fee for everything I generate, including about $1000 to the L.A. County Fire Department for HAZMAT fees..why, I don't know. But if I don't I get penalized big time. So it really depends on where you're doing business and what type of business you have. I'm ready to retire in a few years. I've been in this 20 years and I've had it with the government wanting too big a piece of my pie.

Countdown Monday: Clinton vs. Obama vs. Clinton

Obama's Reagan/republican 'conversation' was intended to give a 'nod' to Independent voters...his way of playing "uniter".

Laura, Groveland, FL (Sent Wednesday, January 23, 2008 3:39 PM)

That's exactly how I saw it, but I thought that was a good thing, not a bad thing. In 1980, there was a large group of disenchanted Democrats who voted for Reagan -- the "Reagan Democrats". Obama was attempting to entice them into the "Obama Democrats" fold. He's campaigning -- trying to persuade people to vote for him -- how is that a bad thing?

I agree with you about the perils of a third party candidate -- I shudder to think of how bad things will get with four more years of "trickle down" Republican Rule. The only thing that "trickles down" is the same stuff that makes yellow snow -- not something that you want to be in the path of.

Nice post Laura, thank you.

Countdown Monday: Clinton vs. Obama vs. Clinton

Laura, Groveland, FL (Sent Wednesday, January 23, 2008 3:39 PM)

Excellent post Laura!!

Carol, I see where you are coming from; I believe that in a general election it may have worked; I believe it was mistake in the democratic primary.

PEACE!!

Countdown Monday: Clinton vs. Obama vs. Clinton

What's really scary, from reading blogs all over, is that enter Bloomberg or Nader (again) and stupid voters that get wrapped up in the crap either don't vote or vote 3rd party and wallah, we have a third term for GWB. Thats exactly how it happened in 2000. Thats no laughing matter. CNN's poll shows John Edwards beating McCain by a margin wider than the error factor. If the press can eliminate John Edwards from the race, then they will immediately start in on the historical negatives of Clinton and Obama that will prevent them from getting elected. The press has been itching to get at these negatives for months, but they have had to coddle Hillary, then glorify Obama, to make sure we didn't get a democrat that can win.

Countdown Monday: Clinton vs. Obama vs. Clinton

Dear Keith,
I remember on the night of New Hampshire you turned to Matthews and said, "Well just like Iowa we are now witnessing another historic occasion, the first woman to win a presidential primary." Matthews after a half second of unease changed the subject.
Keith, please don't be sucked-in to this huge conspiracy at your network of trying to bring Hillary down. Please continue to play fair. I feel so lost, I have stopped watching CNN and of course Fox News is out of the question. But MSNBC is doing it again with Hillary, the same way they did it to Al Gore back in 2000. You are the only sane person left Russert, Matthews, Carlson, Scarborough, Andrea Mitchell, Fineman etc. have all gone berserk against Hillary they don't even bother to disguise their partisanship anymore. I am very concerned about the safety of our democracy when influential people like them can conspire and attempt to pass what they are doing as journalism. Help Keith, help!
I am not necessarily for Hillary, but I am for fairness. I am becoming disappointed in your distortion of their words. By the way, why was Obama the keynote speaker at the 04 Democratic convention?....was that to prepare the american people for his presidency?...who is behind this?....Karl Rove?....Obama is not prepared to be president when you examine his voting record. He needs help getting organized and appears to be indecisive on important decisions. Since when would a true Democrat even infer that the Republicans were the only party with ideas....does that not mean that the Democrats had no ideas?...I find him to be arragant.

Countdown Monday: Clinton vs. Obama vs. Clinton

In the interest of furthering the truth in the Clinton campaign, with Bill's increasing involvement and overshadowing of Hillary, wouldn't it be more honest if she just changed all her literature, signs, and other campaign materials to read "Billary for President?" She should also change the ballot name from Hillary to Billary in all future primaries so the voters are clear on who they are actually voting for if they choose to vote "Clintons."

Countdown Monday: Clinton vs. Obama vs. Clinton

Joan, Obama didn't say the Republcans were the "only" party with ideas. Your interpretation shows why the Clinton startegist are approaching this campaign the way they are. It works.

I think the opening for McCain was created by the scorched earth approach the Clinton's have taken in the primary so far. It's turning off Obama Democrats, who are seeing the Clinton's in a similar light that the Republicans have for so long. If you combine that distaste with a moderate candidate like McCain, the Democrats are in trouble. The problem is, the Clinton's aren't prioritizing the party right now, their focus is winning an election. This approach is adding a slew of moderate Democrats to an already long list of people who don't like or trust the Clinton's.

The Clinton's collectively have a lot of experience with elections. I think their approach is go all out to win and then deal with the fallout in the next election. I believe this approach will hurt them as well as the entire Democratic party come November.
Countdown Monday: Clinton vs. Obama vs. Clinton

Jim Latsis, Chicago, IL (Sent Friday, January 25, 2008 1:30 PM)

Well stated, Jim, I'm one of those 'moderate Democrats' who can now no longer trust the Clintons.

I look forward to reading more of your comments.

Countdown Monday: Clinton vs. Obama vs. Clinton

Thanks Carol, I am also in that category. If you asked me 3 months ago or 3 years ago, I would have said I'm certain to vote Democratic in the general election. Now my feeling is if Hilliary wins the primary, I will strongly reconsider.

The contentious relationship the Clinton's consistently have with their foes begs for an administration filled with acrimony. In the end, it's going to take bipartisanship to get things done and ease the divisiveness in America. I am very disappointed that the Clinton's have adopted such a destructive tone to their campaign, considering the vital timing of this election.

Countdown Monday: Clinton vs. Obama vs. Clinton

I'm a Redskin fan but I hope the Pats make history.
